Why We're Looking for a Brick-and-Mortar Apothecary in St. Paul (and Why It's So Needed)

At The People’s Apothecary, we’re on a mission to bring plant medicine, healing ritual, and intentional living to the heart of St. Paul. As a woman-owned, start-up herbal business, we’re currently searching for the perfect commercial retail space to lease or buy. And while the journey hasn’t been easy, our roots are growing deeper every day.

Why It’s Hard for Startups to Secure Commercial Property

If you’ve ever tried to launch a dream into the physical world, you know it comes with challenges. As a new business, we don’t yet have years of financials to lean on, and many property owners prefer established tenants. It’s a common issue for grassroots, community-based entrepreneurs, especially those not backed by corporate investors.

But we’re not deterred. We’re working with trusted lenders, community supporters, and exploring creative financing options because we believe in the power of this vision: a physical apothecary space in the heart of St. Paul.

Why St. Paul Needs an Apothecary

St. Paul is ready for a space like this. A neighborhood apothecary isn’t just a shop — it’s a healing hub. A gathering place. A doorway into self-care, seasonal wellness, and plant connection. We envision a space that includes:

  • A bulk herb wall for DIY wellness and tea blending

  • A cozy herbal café + chakra latte bar

  • Crystals, candles, tinctures, and ritual tools

  • Workshops and events for the community

  • Affordable consultations to support your wellness goals

In a time where people are disconnected from nature and their own healing wisdom, The People’s Apothecary offers a warm, grounded alternative.

Why Grand Avenue Feels Like Home

We’ve been especially drawn to Grand Avenue in St. Paul, not only have I lived and worked in this creative, historic zone for years, the community hub and creative energy at Grand Avenue continues to inspire me everyday and I want The People’s Apothecary to be a part of that! With its mix of creative shops, local food, walkability, and community charm, Grand Avenue in Saint Paul is the kind of place where you run into neighbors, discover something handmade, and linger in spaces that feel like home.

An apothecary belongs here. It would fit right alongside the bakeries, cheese shops, bookshops, and boutiques. We want to be part of this vibrant, locally-rooted ecosystem that values slow living, connection, and healing.

How You Can Help

Every tea you buy, every product you share, every kind word you offer helps us get one step closer. Our online shop is live, and we’re booking pop-up tea bar services and private events as we continue the search.

If you know a property owner, a retail space, or someone who wants to support a woman-owned, herbal wellness shop in St. Paul please send them our way!

We’re ready to grow. We’re ready to heal. We’re ready to root down.

Power to the plants. Power to the people.
